2008-09-11 14:56:18 The increasing sea level due to melting glaciers is now being revised in an article in the prestigious scientific magazine “Science”, and quoted in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. Last year, the UN climate panel (IPCC) thought that the sea level will have increased by 18-59 cm by the year 2100. Since then, it has been noted how the natural ice streams flowing to the ocean from the glaciers of Greenland and Antarctis have started moving faster and faster. American scientists have considered the accelerating ice streams and come to the conclusion that these streams included, the sea level could rise by 7.8 cm, 83 cm or, at worst, 2 meters. The different numbers depend on different scenarios used in the calculations.
