GE Energy Financial Services has reached $4 billion in investments in renewable energy projects with the addition Wednesday of three wind farms in upstate New York. The General Electric Co. (GE) unit, which invests in global power projects, says renewable energy projects make up nearly 20% of its portfolio, with a majority of the investments in wind projects. GE Energy hit the $3 billion mark five months ago. The unit maintained a target of $6 billion in renewable energy investments by 2010, said Kevin Walsh, a managing director at GE Energy Financial Services, who leads the renewable energy group. Wind power is booming in the U.S. - in 2007, total generating capacity expanded 45% and investments reached $9 billion, according to the American Wind Energy Association.
