A Japanese ministry aims to reintroduce subsidies on solar power equipment in 2009 to help boost Japanese firms' shrinking share in a 1 trillion yen, 9,25 billion dollars, market, just as Germany cuts state support for such gear. Analyst now believe this can help Sharp Corp, which fell behind Germany's Q-cells AG as the no 1 supplier of solar cells in 2007. Officials said the would draw up plans for new subsidies by August, in time to put them in budget requests for next year. Nomura, the Investment Bank, said the move is likely to go ahead, as it follows Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda's announcement this month that Japan will cut Greenhouse gas emissions by 60-80% from current levels by 2050 and install solar panels in 70% a newly built houses by 2020.
