As the focus of production shifts geographically, more than half of the wind turbine capacity in 2012 will already be located outside of Europe compared with a rate of 39% outside Europe last year. Nordex, the German wind turbine maker announced 30 of May it will build its own production facilities in the US. Spending will be around 100 million dollar and result in a annual production capacity of 750 MW by 2012.
Global wind energy companies expect future growth in the industry to be mainly driven by the United States, China and Spain according to w newly presented report from Germany. Countries such as Greece and South Korea are also gaining in importance the report states. The report highlights were presented by organisers of the Husum Wind Energy 2008 Trade Fair. Further more, the report expects global annual new installations to grow fivefold in the next 10 years and reach about 718 000 megawatts (MW) compared with the 94 593 MW recorded at the en of last year. In 2007, all global installations rose by 27% to 94 593 MW, with 78% of new installations made in the US, China, Spain, Germany and India. Germany is still the world’s largest wind power market overall. |
