The famous plug-in hybrid car Fisker Karma has now been driven in front of an audience, according to Ny Teknik 2009-08-19. The car ran one lap around a race track in California using only electricity.
The energy is stored in lithium-ion batteries with capacity of 22 kWh, which should be enough to run 80 km. The battery can be charged via electrical sockets. Even at longer distances when the car uses an internal combustion engine, fuel consumption will be low. According to Fisker, 2.4 litres will be enough to run 100 km. The maximum speed of the car is expected to be 200 km/h, but during the demonstrations in California the top speed was 160 km/h. Sales of the mass production models are expected to begin in May next year. |
